Friday Night Wine Tasting Italian Night Edition!
Friday Night Wine Tasting Italian night edition!
This Friday night, March 6th, we are taking it all the way to Italy! We thought it would be fun to try two brand new wines from a small company called Lionstone International!
Before we get into the tasting notes and the pairing with food, we wanted to talk a little about Lionstone International as a company! Lionstone International specializes in the sourcing and importing of an exceptional selection of exclusive premium wines from around the world.
Why we love Lionstone International….WE ARE SMALL! Since we are a small neighborhood liquor store we love to bring in different wines that you may have never seen. Sure we all love the Josh’s, the Kendall Jacksons, and the Kim Crawfords, but try something new! You can always get those wines…EXPAND your palette! It’s so much fun to get to try new wines every Friday night! So with that being said, lets taste some brand new wines!
The first wine we will be tasting is Duca Di Cardino, Sangiovese Di Toscana 2018. This wine is a bold and structured Italian red wine. But do you know what a Sangiovese grape tastes like? Well, this grape is a dark-berried vine, that is the most widely planted grape in Italy. The Italians have had a long history of love affairs with the Sangiovese grape.
What makes a good-quality Sangiovese? This grape specifically is prized for its high acid, firm tannins and balanced nature. Wines with this grape are savory flavors of dark cherries and black stone fruit. (Okay so I don't know about you, but I had no idea what stone fruit meant…well guys a stone fruit is a fruit with flesh or pulp enclosing a “stone”, such as a peach, plum, or cherry.) Most often a Sangiovese wine has secondary notes of tomato leaf and dried herbs. Today, the use of oak has become very popular. Using oak helps richen flavors from the grapes, tending towards plum and wild raspberry. Sounds delicious!
For this Italian dinner, we recommend a nice Roasted Pork Loin. We found a great recipe that is simple and only takes about 1 hour and 20 minutes to prep and cook fully!

Okay like we said, we are tasting two wines this week! The second wine is Duca Di Cardino, Rosso Di Montepulciano 2016. Montepulciano is also a red wine grape that is mainly grown widely in central Italy, and most notably in the eastern Abruzzo, Marche and Molise regions.
Montepulciano wines are greatly appreciated for their soft flavors, strong color and gentle tannins. They get the reputation of the “red table wines.” Typically a Montepulciano is best when they are young and paired with food! So, we paired this new wine with a great Italian Deep-dish Pizza that only takes 25 minutes!

I hope you enjoyed this little Friday night wine tasting and food pairing post! We hope to see everyone from 5-8pm Friday March 6th, to taste two new wines with us! It’s always a fun time and we love seeing familiar faces and new faces! So bring your friends! You never know, you might just find your new favorite wines!!
