Our New Normal Friday Night In

Our New Normal Friday Night In

In the crazy world we are living in today, we've had to learn to adjust #stayhome and drink!

With the Covid-19 virus, unfortunately our new normal Friday night no longer includes our beloved wine tastings until further notice. But, since we are all spending some more time at home we figured we could still continue with our wine and food pairing recommendations! Since we are deemed an essential business we are still getting weekly deliveries and we are doing everything we can to make sure we all get some wine and spirits in this difficult time.

This week we got in a brand new Washington State Cabernet Sauvignon called Windswept. Have you ever tried a Cabernet from Washington State? Most people are stuck on their California Cabernets but trust us, this is a must try!

Washington State first became popular with Merlot wines and Syrahs. However, now Washington State ranks second in the United States in producing Cabernet Sauvignons. Washington Cabernets tend to mix New World-style fruit with more of an Old World-style structure, in terms of the balance of tannins and acidity. California Cabernets tend to be dry, full-bodied, and is prized for its long aging potential. They also are known for displaying characteristic green flavors.

Windswept is from The Columbia Valley in Washington State. This Cabernet gets its name Windswept from the winds that sweep through the Vineyard in the Columbia Valley. They say that the winds play a key role in the wines quality. The winds keep the canopies healthy by extending the sunlight exposure. This process makes it so the fruit gets the perfect amount of time to ripen and produce delicious flavors. It also thickens the skins for more rounded enhanced tannins.

Oh, and did I mention this wine is from that small company Lionstone that we previously talked about in our Italian wine tasting!? We love Lionstone wines.

Okay, so with all of that said lets taste some wine!! But...#STAYHOME and taste it! This Cabernet has tasting aromas of blackberry, plum, and blueberry. The flavors follow on, with layers of dark fruit and subtle spice, thanks to a 10-month slumber in fine American and French barrels. This Cabernet is ripe and succulent so we decided to pair it with a hearty stew! Check out this recipe we found to make a Beef Stew in Red Wine Sauce! This recipe serves around 4 people and takes about 2 hours and 40 minutes to make!
